The sudden explosion of YouTube channels a few years back was, I believe, _because_ of monetization, the rise of the "YouTube celebrities," and everyone thinking they could do jack shit and get rich and famous for it. But now that that false hope is decidedly gone, you will see those who had (and still have) no desire to work begin to weed themselves out en masse.
